Cath takes up Fallen Angel role ahead of opening

AS Durham's newest and most luxurious hotel prepares to open its doors, it has announced the appointment of its general manager.

Cath Bellhouse will oversee operations at the Fallen Angel in Durham, a boutique venue being opened by Durham Pine founder John Marshall and his partner Sandra Mac- Donald.

The hotel, which includes ten individually themed bedrooms - including the Premiere Room, which comprises a genuine gold Rolls Royce - is being hailed as possibly the most unique venue in the UK.

It is due to open later this month after a multi-million pound renovation of a Georgian townhouse in the city's Old Elvet.

Ms Bellhouse joins the Fallen Angel after several years in the hospitality industry, during which time her positions have included being a director at Lumley Castle, near Chester-le-Street.

She said her favourite room at the venue is the Dr Zhivago-themed penthouse Russian Bride suite, which boasts a glass-fronted sauna, hand-carved furniture and tented ceiling.

"This room really appeals to me, partly thanks to the movie and, it has to be said, visions of Omar Sharif, though I really don't consider myself to be Julie Christie,"

she said.

Mr Marshall said: "We are delighted Cath has joined us and are sure we have made a great appointment.

"Cath already has the reservations system open for booking and is looking forward to greeting her first guests. With her at the helm, the North will soon have another Angel waiting in the wings."
