Young farmers’ clubs


County Durham. – County Durham Federation would like to wish all its members good luck as they represent their county at the Northern Area Finals at the weekend in Thirsk.

Under-18 members will need their consent forms at all competitions. Order your tickets now from clubs for the Summer Fling at the George Hotel, Piercebridge, next Friday, at 7.30pm; smart dress is required. Tickets cost £15; food will be served from 9pm-10.30pm. ID will be needed for wristbands. The following meetings are to be held at the George Hotel: F/O meeting on Wednesday; R/C meeting on Wednesday, July1; and executive meeting on Wednesday, July 22.

Anyone in the Northern Area finals at Thirsk Auction Mart tomorrow needs to get their items there for 10am. Well done to Hannah Walton for coming second at Otley Show dairy judging and Richard Walton for fifth place. Next week’s meeting is an archery evening at the Booth Hall for 7.15pm to go to Scorton at 7.30pm. For tickets to the Northern Area dance, see Chris Harrison. Catterick Young Farmers presented a cheque for £292 to Fiona Chilton, of Sue Ryder Care, on Tuesday, June 2.

Laura Stephenson and Louise Hill did a presentation on Sunday at the County Show for third place, explaining they raised the money by running in the mascot race at Wetherby. On Monday, it was our committee meeting at the Booth Hall at 8pm. We have organised a summer paintballing trip for all members to say thank you for winning the Cledale Rally and doing so well in other competitions. We are going to Scotch Corner Paintball on Saturday, July 4, from 9am- 4pm, including breakfast and barbecue lunch; contact Laura as soon as possible if you want to go.

Elwick. – This week’s meeting was junior takeover, where the junior chairman Rebecca Appleton, organised an excellent quiz, with varied rounds, from maths to film and television, and the popular iPod music round. Many thanks to Rebecca for organising a fun meeting.

Good luck to all members competing at Northern Area field day tomorrow, being held at Thirsk Auction Mart. Elwick YFC holds an American-themed hoedown ceilidh on July 4, Independence Day, at 7.30pm at Stotfold Moor Farm, Elwick, with a hog roast, bouncy castle and a ceilidh band. Tickets are £10 for adults, and £6.50 for children.

Half of the proceeds will go to Pansy’s Breast Cancer Care Support.

Sedgefield. – Last week’s meeting was a walk up Roseberry Topping.

Members had a tiring trek, but were rewarded with a beautiful view and nice sunny weather. Tuesday’s meeting is an interclub games night with Elwick YFC on the beach; meet at Hardwick Arms at 7pm. There is an interclub meeting.
