Success? It’s down to taste
STAFF at the Italian Wine Cellar in Durham's
popular Indoor Market have reported a boom
in sales which the company puts down to
Durham's discerning palate when it comes to
quality food and drink.
As a result, the owner, Giovanni Vigliansi, has
decided to consolidate his businesses and now
offers an expanded range of quality wines,
whiskies and Italian food from the Wine Cellar.
"Having come to the Indoor Market a year
ago, we have been astonished by the enormous
demand for our products amongst tourists and
locals alike," says Giovanni.
"Our success goes to prove that the people
of Durham are increasingly concerned with
seeking out more refined product. Our organic
wine and whisky collection range have
become exceptionally popular."
The store is located at one of the main entrances
from the Market Place. The range of
wines includes many familiar labels available
at prices comparable to major supermarkets,
as well as some more unusual brands, such as
a range of Italian champagnes usually available
only via Harrods and Selfridges.
Market manager Joanne Price is always
looking to bring in more variation to the Indoor
market to enhance the shopping experience:
"We are delighted with Giovanni's success
and being located near the fishmongers,
poultry and cheese stalls means there is an excellent
range of food and drink all next to each
other."
The store has the atmosphere of a traditional
Italian wine cellar with a vaulted ceiling and
wooden display racks, providing a rustic atmosphere
that customers can savour as they
contemplate their purchases.
