TESCO might not have been everybody’s idea of a ideal replacement tenant for the vacant Woolworth’s store in Durham market place, but in these straitened times beggars can’t be choosers.
A high quality fashion retailer might have been better, but that part of the retail jndustry is suffering at present, while the supermarket sector, dealing in life’s essentials, is still doing well, as evidenced by Sainsbury’s plans to extend its store at Pity Me.
On the positive side, it is better that this prominent shop unit is occupied, as opposed to lying empty and forlorn, bringing a desolate look to this corner of the city.
