Have a heart

IT IS the end of January and no doubt one or two of those new year resolutions may be at risk of being broken. It is a tough time in many respects, but we ask readers to make one additional resolution and back our Heart of Durham Appeal in some way, however small.

Simple donations are always welcome, but for many the easiest way to support a good cause is to give a little time.

For those who included among their resolutions to get more exercise, there is an ideal opportunity to do just that with the Valentine’s Day walk along the city’s riverbanks.

It is just three miles – and it will be good for your heart too.

There will be many other opportunites to “do your bit” in the coming weeks and we will be publicising them all in our efforts to galvanise the city to support a cause that should be dear to all of us.

Few families, especially in the North-East of England where we have a terrible historical record, are untouched by the scourge of heart disease.

At the Durham Times, we will be working hard to help tackle this problem and we hope readers will join us on the way. It should be fun.
