City campus

2:19pm Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – Prof Chris Hutchinson’s article in the Durham Times of February 19 informs us that the university owns half of the land in the centre of Durham, that most residents live beside homes converted into houses of multiple occupancy and that students represent a quarter of the population.

Landlords

2:20pm Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I need to correct J Dent (Letters, February 26). I believe that I am the landlord in question. As part of the Student Home Zones policy of improving community relations, we have reached agreement with Option C, who operate a community car sharing scheme in Durham.

False credit

2:20pm Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I would like to echo the comments highlighted in J Dent’s letter (Durham Times, February 21, “Landlords”), and I am sure that many other residents of Durham City, and not just in Elvet, can relate to and validate the points made.

Fishy tale

2:21pm Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I found Bob West’s fish references in his latest letter very amusing.

Thanks to MP

2:22pm Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – I think we owe a debt of gratitude to our MP, Roberta Blackman-Woods, for working so hard to get more grit and salt for Durham.

Rural issues

2:22pm Friday 5th March 2010

Sir, – With the General Election fast approaching, now is the time to ask those who aspire to be our MPs in the future what they will do if they are elected.

Croquet bid

1:59pm Friday 26th February 2010

Sir, – Facilities for physical recreation can be expensive.

Landlords

2:00pm Friday 26th February 2010

Sir, – The letter from Carol Woods two weeks ago exalting a landlord for supplying one car for student car sharing shows why she is perceived as the landlord’s friend.

Visit costs

2:00pm Friday 26th February 2010

Sir, – I am writing to inquire further about the funding for today’s Labour “Cabinet meeting” at Durham Johnston School.

Lively debate

2:01pm Friday 26th February 2010

Sir, – It is nice to see that robust political debate is alive and well in Durham.
