Persistence pays
THE council said they were
wrong, the courts said they were
wrong - but Durham residents
Anne Evans, Desmond Evans and
Kirsty Thomas have shown that
determination and the belief that
you are right can pay off.
Their campaign to stop a lap
dancing club being opened in
Durham has had to clear hurdles
that might have daunted less persistent
souls - but the rejection of
Vimac Leisure's call for a judicial
review of the magistrates' decision
is vindication of their stubbornness.
Here's hoping it means the end
of the scheme - which has become
a drawn out and expensive
battle - and here, too, we hope
that Robera Blackman-Woods is
successful in ensuring a change to
the law which may just prevent
such sagas in future.
