Baths troubles
2:29pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - I have been a concessionary season ticket holder for Durham Baths since retiring in June 1999 and as the old baths had no peak or off-peak times I could swim at any time.

Choose Ron
2:30pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - I support Alderman Mary Hawgood in her letter about the citizens of Durham having a say in appointing mayors in the future. I also hope councillors and ex-mayors also make their voices heard on this very important issue: Ron Dickie, our present deputy mayor, has served the council many, many years and has been my ward councillor all the time.

Post offices
2:31pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - There are hundreds of houses within walking distance of South Pelaw Post Office, yet it is to close on October 7. Obviously, the powers that be have refused to listen to the concerns of customers and MP Kevan Jones has failed in his attempts to prevent its closure.

Family search
2:32pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - I am searching for any descendants of my great-grandparents, William Hutchinson and Jane Lawton, who were married in Chester-le-Street on about March 14, 1856. They had seven children, William, born in 1857, James, 1861, Thomas, 1866, Stephen, 1868, Jane, 1872, Edward, 1873 and George, 1877.

Talking point
2:32pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - From your report of September 19: "Dr Blackman-Woods said: "The problem of McDonalds' litter is one that blights local neighbourhoods in Durham. I am pressing for McDonalds to take action."

Ban the bomb
2:33pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - Abolition of Nuclear Weapons I'm sure everyone will welcome a new Government-funded report into how nuclear disarmament could be achieved.

Labour let down
2:34pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - B Rodgers (Letters, 19th September) indulges in the time-old Labour scare tactic of trying compare the Lib Dems and the Tories but it just won't wash.

The life of Simon
2:34pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - I must admit I had a snigger last week at your front page article entitled And the unitary authority will be called..'. It explained that after "extensive consultation" involving 700 people and a public meeting no less, the decision was made to rename Durham County Council....ummmm....Durham County Council.

Save the schools
2:35pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - Durham's Labour MP has called on me to make clear my position on academies in Durham, and I am more than happy to do so.

Eastbourne School
2:35pm Friday 26th September 2008
Sir, - Although I did not read the letter written by John Severs regarding Eastbourne Academy in Darlington, I disagree strongly with the views expressed by Connie Lingess (Letters, Sept 12).
