NOT even the grim summer weather could dampen the spirits of the more than 400 people attending this year's Durham City Rugby Football Club annual gala ball.

Staged in a lavish marquee at the club's ground at Hollow Drift, the third event of its kind proved a huge success.

A drinks reception kicked off the evening which was then followed by dinner. After the meal, those attending enjoyed a programme of entertainment before dancing the night away.

A total of 420 people attended the ball which, as well as being a social occasion, also provided the opportunity for old friends to reunite.

The evening before the dinner dance the club also staged a Sportsman's dinner in the marquee, where the speaker was ex- England international Brian Moore, who received a warm reception from the 300 guests.

The celebratory weekend raised a total of £20,000 for the club.
