FORMER Commotions frontman Lloyd Cole will perform a solo concert in Durham next week.

Cole, best known for his singer-songwriter efforts with The Commotions in the 1980s, has also developed a reputation as an eclectic solo artist.

Born in Buxton in 1961, Cole formed The Commitions while studying philosophy at Glasgow University in 1982.

Originally a soul band, the group eventually trimmed itself down to a quintet including keyboardist Blair Cowan, guitarist Neil Clark, bassist Lawrence Donegan and drummer Stephen Irvine.

They found fame with art-pop hits such as Perfect Skin, Forrest Fire, Brand New Friend and Lost Weekend.

Cole will play the Gala Theatre, in Durham, on Thursday, June 21. The concert starts at 8pm.

Tickets, priced £20, can be booked by calling 0191-332-4041 or visiting galadurham.co.uk.
