300th person signs up for walk
A FORMER nurse has become the 300th person to register to take part in a midnight walk to raise much-needed funds for a hospice.
Joyce Bainbridge, who lives in Newton Hall, has signed up to take part in the 10km stroll around Aykley Heads to raise funds for St Cuthbert's Hospice, in the city.
Ms Bainbridge, who takes part in voluntary work at the hospice's in-patient unit, took part in last year's inaugural midnight walk. She said: "I did the walk last year with my daughter. It was a great night out and we enjoyed the experience so much that I've now talked my other daughter into taking part, to make it a family occasion."
The 2008 walk takes place on Saturday, June 21, and will be started by TV agony aunt Denise Robertson.
The closing date for applications is May 23. Entry costs £10, plus sponsorship, and details are available from the hospice on 0191-386-1170.
