Consett man accused of filming sex with teenager

Durham Times: Gianfranco Fanelli Gianfranco Fanelli

A MAN appeared in court today (Wednesday, November 6) accused of secretly filming himself having sex with a teenage girl.

Gianfranco Fanelli allegedly made three films of intimate encounters with the girl.

Although his alleged victim had reached the legal age of consent, the 55-year-old is facing criminal charges because it is illegal to make indecent images of anyone under 18.

Mr Fanelli appeared at Durham Crown Court today accused of three counts of making an indecent image of a child.

Mr Fanelli, of Berry Edge Road, Consett, was not asked to plead.

His case was adjourned to January 10, for a plea and case management hearing. A provisional trial date has been set for February 5.

Mr Fanelli is the former owner of Giovanni's restaurant, on the old steelworks site in Consett.

Giovanni's, which opened in 2007 as Soprano's, closed before Christmas last year and the business was placed in the hands of the receivers.
