Couple shopping for wedding rings win £1,000

A LUCKY couple won an early present as they went out shopping for wedding rings.
Michael Turner and fiancee Kimberley Hutchinson were visiting the Prince Bishops Centre, in Durham, on Sunday to buy the rings for the big day when the husband-to-be won a £1,000 shopping spree in a radio competition.
Mr Turner, an Army physical training instructor based at Glen Coe in Scotland, entered the competition run by Century FM to crack the code to a safe.
Although no-one managed to find the correct code, everyone who entered the competition throughout the day was registered and it was his ticket drawn from the hat.
He said: "I could not believe it. We have just recently become engaged and thought we would spend Sunday looking for rings and getting some ideas for where we would like to go on our honeymoon.
"I took part in the safecracker competition, as obviously the £1,000 would come in handy with a wedding to plan for, but I did not think for one minute I'd win it."
The couple, from Belmont, who have also just bought their first home and plan to marry in Durham next summer, are already planning how they will spend their winnings at any of the 40 shops in the centre. Bride-to-be Miss Hutchinson said: "With a new home and a wedding to plan, the money is going to be a great help."
