A ROCK band is celebrating winning a pub's battle of the bands contest despite facing competition from more established groups.
Dirty Little Tricks, made up of 16-year-old friends from Framwellgate Moor School, Durham, impressed judges at the Angel Inn and won an eight-hour recording session which they will use to produce a demo disc.
The band - Thomas Pattinson, of Newton Hall, on vocals and lead guitar, bassist Luke Colledge, of Ushaw Moor, drummer Daniel Robson, of Newton Hall, and rhythm guitarist Andrew Bell, of Witton Gilbert - formed last year and are developing a following with a mix of heavy rock covers and original songs.
The band was up against No Signal Input, AKA and Meta Music in the competition on bank holiday Monday.
Tom Pattinson said: "The ambition is to get as big as we can, really. We just want to make good music. Our main interest is in Led Zeppelin.
They are our idols. We do covers to get our name out but we are writing our own music.
"Winning the competition means a lot to us. We are a band that's just been going for a year and the other bands had been going a lot longer.
"Getting the recording session means that we can get a demo done. That is a head start because we would have had to pay for it ourselves."
