A TRAIL which lays bare the lives of some of Victorian Durham’s most colourful characters has been launched.
The Palace Green Victorian Trail has been drawn up by students at Durham University. It explores the lives of famous residents such as Mr Robson, a surgeon who doubled as a funeral director, and Joseph Boruwlaski, the Polish dwarf known as the Little Count.
Katie Barnett, one of six students who have been working on the scheme for nearly a year, said: “It’s a nice insight into how Durham would have been during that era.”
Leaflets are available including a map of the trail. The walk can take between 45 minutes and two hours.
The students were studying towards masters degrees in museum and artefact studies. York Castle Museum, Beamish Museum, the Durham Heritage Centre and the World Heritage Site of Durham Castle and Cathedral were also involved. Leaflets can be collected from Durham Tourist Information Centre, in Millennium Place, Waterstone’s, in Saddler Street, and other shops and attractions.
