Hunt for baseball-bat wielding robbers in Sacriston

DETECTIVES are hunting a baseball bat-wielding robbers who stole a delivery of cash.

The robbery happened just before midday today at the Lloyds TSB branch on Front Street, Sacriston, near Durham City.

Two men in dark clothing and black balaclavas, who were carrying baseball bats, approached a security guard bringing money to the bank, and demanded that he give it to them.

The guard handed over the cash box, containing a substantial sum, and the men then fled, leaving him uninjured.

The men made off in a Silver Honda CR-V, which was later found abandoned nearby. It was found to have false number plates.

Detective Constable Malcolm Bell said: "We are particularly interested in finding out more about the number plates from this vehicle as we feel they may hold the key to finding the people responsible for this robbery.

"If anyone has information regarding the registration NV10 WUD, we would urge them to come forward."
