MORE than 150 jobs will be lost with the closure of 34 bakery stores in the region.

Administrators KPMG have announced a deal to sell 22 Peters Bakery stores, involving the transfer of 129 store-based staff; the firm’s Durham City factory and headquarters, along with 69 staff; and Peters’ retail van business, with ten staff, to Coopland and Son, of Scarborough.

The deal will save 208 jobs.

However, 34 Peters stores will close immediately, with 149 redundancies.

Four staff in the distribution operation and two at the firm’s head office have also been made redundant.

Pity about that. They were one of the better VFM shops, unlike Greggs you could see the Cheese/Meat in their pies and pasties and tse it as well.
