Police warning after crooks target Coxhoe cars

POLICE are warning drivers to be vigilant after a number of vehicles were broken into.

Crooks targeted several vehicles in Coxhoe , near Durham, overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday, stealing cash, a mobile phone and other items.

During a patrol of the village, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and volunteers found around 35 vehicles parked with property left on view.

Police are now sending letters offering crime prevention advice to motorists.

Paul Anderson, neighbourhood inspector for Durham City, said: "I don’t want this to become a problem in the Coxhoe area. We need to nip this in the bud.
"So I would ask that members of the public remember to lock their cars and remove property from view. There’s no need to become a victim of crime – simple measures can avoid the annoyance, anger and inconvenience of having your car broken into. Please help keep Durham safe."

To report a crime, call Durham Constabulary on 101.
