Four charged after Durham drugs raids

FOUR more people have been charged following a series of dawn raids against suspected criminal gangs.

More than 200 police raided ten houses around Durham City, three around Bishop Auckland and four in the Northumbria Police area, including at Tweedmouth, near Berwick, on Thursday, July 5.

Nine men and three women were arrested as part of Durham Police’s Operation Sledgehammer, aimed at tackling organised crime.
A substantial amount of cash was recovered.

Six people were charged the following day.

Now four more men have been charged.

Three men, aged 47, 39 and 24, all from Durham, and a 36-year-old man from Bishop Auckland are charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
The 39-year-old and the 47-year-old are also charged with possessing criminal property.

All are expected to appear before magistrates in Peterlee on Wednesday, August 22.
