TWO North-East children have gone ‘backstage’ at the Olympics.

Daniel Jackson, seven, from Peterlee, and Logan Aitchison, nine, from Durham, won three-day, all-expenses paid trips to the London games in a “Mascotathlon” competition run by McDonald’s.

Daniel said: “I had a great time. I got to go inside the velodrome and we even saw Sir Chris Hoy.
“I really enjoyed the tours of London and being in the Park with everything going on around us.”

His father, Robin Jackson, said: “We couldn’t believe it when Daniel won the access all areas pass – I think I was even more excited than him.
“We both enjoyed the swimming heats but getting to see the velodrome and the rest of the Olympic Park was a highlight for me.”

The Mascotathlon contest invited children to log their physical activity online and was aimed at getting children interested in the Olympics.
