ASTONISHING hitting by Phil Mustard saw him make his highest one-day score when he thrashed 143 against holders Surrey in the CB 40 League at Chester-le-Street today.
It was the second highest one-day score on the Riverside ground behind the 147 made by Shahriar Nafees for Bangladesh A against Durham in 2005.
It was also the second highest one-day score by a Durham player behind Ben Stokes’ 150 at Edgbaston last year.
Mustard, whose previous best was 139 not out at Northampton last year, hit seven sixes in his 91-ball innings before he was out in the 34th over, skying a catch to point.
Durham were on course to beat their record 40-over total of 325, set against the same opponents at the Oval last year, until Mustard was out with the total on 271.
The remaining six overs brought only 27 runs for the loss of five more wickets and Durham finished on 298 for nine. There was also good contributions from Mark Stoneman with a run-a-ball 50 and Stokes with 45.
