Notts v Durham (CB 40 League, interval)
4:27pm Sunday 19th August 2012 in Cricket
By Tim Wellock
IT was almost a replica of the previous day as Durham’s bowlers recovered from a disastrous start in the CB 40 League match at Trent Bridge. But this time there was a sting in the tail as Chris Read propelled his side to 294 for eight.
Michael Lumb led the early onslaught with 84 off 51 balls, Riki Wessels continued it with 43 off 28, then the torrent turned to a trickle.
The score was 159 for three in the 18th over when Wessels was out, yet in the next 17 overs there were only two fours.
Whereas the first 17 overs yielded 159 runs the next 17 produced only 66, then Read suddenly opened up and 40 runs came off the next three overs in the batting powerplay.
He matched Wessels’ three sixes as he remained unbeaten on 71, made off 43 balls, slightly spoiling Johann Myburgh’s figures by taking ten off the final over.
Until then the South African’s occasional off spin had earned one for 11 in three overs, in stark contrast to Mitch Claydon, who conceded 76 in his eight overs.
