Murton defy elements to take 23 point lead

Murton were again the only team to defy the elements and stage a game in the Durham Coast League, and their enterprise paid huge dividends as they overcame Easington by 61 runs to go 23 points clear at the top.

Skipper Dave Hanson was the rock in the Murton innings, seven fours and a six featuring in his 56, and with extras (24) next on the list the home team took 49 overs to reach 140. But it was more than enough as John Sample (5-15 in 12 overs) and Richard Bentley (4-17 in 11 overs) made maximum use of the conditions to tip Easington out for 79.
