Whitburn felled by new league leaders

FELLING enjoyed a fine day to defeat hosts Whitburn by 83 runs, and move top of the Durham Senior League table.

The visitors made a useful 195 in 50.3 overs, the feature being two stands involving Paul Leonard (51).

He put on 71 for the second wicket with Dan Clark (41) and then 85 for the third with Phil Taylor (66). But Felling didn’t fully capitalise, losing six wickets for six runs as Stuart Walker (4-31) and Paul Cook (3-30) took the late wind out of their sails.

Whitburn then suffered a collapse of their own, slumping from 100-3 to 112 all out as Leonard (4-26) and Chris Goudie (4-27) blasted the hosts resistance away to record a win for their team by 83 runs.

Marsden worked hard to ensure their first home game back in the DSL went ahead, and they earned their reward as they came out on top in a hard-fought encounter with Norton.

Paul Hobson (5-22) and Steve Neilson (3-12) gave Marsden the upper hand, only Nick Thomas (43) getting to grips with the conditions.

Chris Mann (41) and Patrick Jackson (38) then shared an opening stand of 80 that laid the foundations of their team’s five-wicket victory.
