FOOTBALL: Durham 16 points clear at summit

| GOAL: Steven Richardson knocks one in for Durham |
DURHAM City are 16 points clear top after they beat bottom club Jarrow Roofing 3-1.
Craig Tate gave Roofing a surprise lead, but Steve Richardson equalised. City went in front when Roofing defender Phil Graham turned a John Toft cross into his own net. Richardson made the game safe for his 23rd league goal of the season.
Whitley Bay are the only team who can have a realistic chance of overtaking City, and they won 2-0 at Bishop Auckland, thanks to two goals in five minutes before half-time.
Chester-le-Street hit back to earn a point in a 3-3 draw with Billingham Synthonia.
Chester took the lead with a header by Andy Armstrong, and went 2-0 up on 25 minutes when Tony Healer scored. Synners pulled a goal back with a Brian Close header, and the former Darlington player equalised from a corner.
Neil Campbell fired Synners into the lead on 75 minutes, but Scott Emmerson equalised from the penalty spot. Emmerson was then dismissed for an off the ball incident, his second red card in a week.
Washington are still dangerously close to the relegation zone after they were thumped 4-0 at home by Sunderland Nissan. David Tait got a hat-trick, with Steve Walklate also scoring.
Shildon's chances of a top six place received a setback when they were beaten 3-2 at West Allotment. Andy Hay gave Allotment the lead, but Shildon's Tyson Masters equalised. Mistakes in the Shildon defence allowed Hay and Keith Douglas to put Allotment 3-1 up.
Closest rivals Whitley Bay won in midweek to close the gap from 19 points to 16.
