West End star Jodie Prenger is going from I'd Do Anything to I Do - after agreeing to marry boyfriend Simon Booth.
The 32-year-old singer and actress, currently appearing in hit production On Man Two Guv'nors, has become engaged after dating him for two years.
But she has told Hello! magazine she told of the "extremes of emotion" she felt as her happiness had to contend with tragedy when her father was taken ill and died just days later.
Prenger - who found fame in BBC1 talent search I'd Do Anything - accepted accepted Booths's marriage proposal last month. But two days later her father Marty, who had just been diagnosed with kidney cancer, took a turn for the worse and within a fortnight he had died.
"I've never experienced the extremes of emotion that I have in the past weeks," she said.
"I'm just so glad Dad knew I was going to be taken care of. Dad loved Simon like a son and always said I'd be safe with him. Simon's a good man with a good soul, just like my dad."
Prenger, who is shortly to play Elsie Tanner in the hotly awaited Coronation Street musical Street of Dreams, plans to tie the knot early next year. They are considering a wedding in Booth's home town, Blackpool.
"I've had to kiss a lot of frogs to find my prince. I've been out with some horrible fellas," she said.
"But, you know, in a way I'm glad I've been cheated on, walked over, had stories sold on me because God knows it makes you appreciate 'the one' when he comes along.
"Our wedding is, above all, going to be a joyous occasion - to celebrate what we have in life and to make the most of every minute of it, which is exactly what Dad would have wanted."
