Police name pedestrian killed in car park in Coxhoe

A MAN who died after being hit by a vehicle in a car park was named by police tonight.

Shaun Dalby, 28, from Church Street in Coxhoe, near Durham, died after being hit in a car park near a Co-op store in Browning Hill, Coxhoe, at 1.40am.

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held at Durham City Police station.

Police were called to the scene after the ambulance service reported that the man had been found dead under a Fiat Punto.

Chief Inspector Colin Williamson said the death was believed to be connected to a previous criminal damage incident in a nearby street.

Witnesses claimed three men were involved in the incident. One man was arrested by police and is being questioned by officers.

The detective added: "We are not treating this as a random attack. Both the victim and the suspect are known to each other and the background to these incidents will be fully investigated."

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out later tonight at the University Hospital North Durham.

Witnesses to either the criminal damage incident or the one which led to the death are urged to contact Durham Police on 0345-6060365 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
