THE Durham Musical Theatre Company will be celebrating its 100th birthday tomorrow with a dinner at the Three Tuns Hotel, Durham.
The society, which has 120 active members, was formed as the Durham Amateur Operatic Society and its first production was Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore in May 1909.
The group performed for many years at the Garland Theatre, New College, and more recently staged productions at the Gala Theatre, where it will stage Fiddler on the Roof in March next year.
THE legend of the Lambton Worm is one of the great tales of North- East folklore, living on in the words of the song that generations of children have learnt.
